The new building is yet to be occupied

In August 2015 Devotra shipped a number of containers to Lodwar County in Kenya for the Rehabilitation & Upgrading of the Lodwar Youth Polytechnics (LOYOPO). The project is funded and implemented by the Lundin Foundation in Kenya and will offer the youth of Lodwar county the possibility to follow different courses:

  • Motor Vehicle Mechanics
  • Masonry and Building Construction
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Plumbing and Pipe Fitting
  • Welding and Fabrication
  • Electrical Installtions
  • Hairdressing and Beauty therapy
  • Information Communication Technology
  • Hospitality

Most of the training centre will be reconstructed and the first new buildings are ready to receive the new equipment. Fase 1 of the project consist of fully newly equipped workshops for Plumbing & Pipe Fitting and Electrical Installations.

The first equipment will arrive in November 2015 and our local team will take care for the full installation and commissioning of the equipment and also for training of the relevant teachers.

Historical Background
The institution was started by the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar in 1976. The main objective was to equip the youth in the area, with skills to improve their chances of being absorbed in the job market, or become self-employed.

Administration
Currently all youth polytechnic are devolved to the county government. They are under the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, under the department of Science and Technology. The Directorate of youth training is headed by the Director of Youth Training, DYT, and at the county level, headed by the County Director Youth Training, CDYT. And Sub-county Director Youth Training SCDYT. The day to day running activities are led by the Board of Governors, BOG, Parent Instructor Association (PIA), and the staff.

The Personnel
There are 11 instructors and 8 support staff. All courses have one instructor each apart from hair dressing which has two.
